My Updated Skincare Routine for Anti-Aging. You’re beautiful at any age, my mom would always say to me when I was a teenager. As if that wasn’t enough, the magazines I was reading had similar messages like Forever Young and The Ageless Beauty. At the time I didn’t quite believe it, but as I get older, I understand what they were saying more and more. It’s not just genetics that determines how young you look, but your lifestyle choices too!
The Importance of Sunscreen
One of the most important aspects of my skincare routine is ensuring that I wear sunscreen every day. The sun’s rays can cause age spots, wrinkles, and even cancer if you’re not careful. It’s also very important to protect your skin from UV rays when you’re in a tanning bed. I always go for a natural sunscreen that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals or fragrances because it can irritate your skin and cause all sorts of issues like eczema, acne, or hives. The key to finding one you like is to try out a few until you find one that works well with your skin type. Some people have dry skin and need an oil-free product while others may have sensitive skin and need something fragrance-free.
Exfoliating Regularly
I’m not going to lie, exfoliating is no walk in the park. It’s like a scrubbing of your entire face and it can be quite painful if you have sensitive skin. I like to use a gentle exfoliating product like Elemis Exfoliate Every Day Gentle Daily Cleanse which has small particles that are not as harsh on my skin as other types of scrubs and also includes natural ingredients that are good for my skin. This has been a great addition to my skincare routine and I feel like it’s helped me get rid of any dead or dry skin that was blocking up my pores. The only downside is that it can be quite drying so I have to make sure I really moisturize afterward!
Applying Vitamin C
I’ve been reading a lot about the benefits of Vitamin C lately and have started adding it to my routine. I’ve used serums in the past, but what I love about using Vitamin C is that it comes in cream form so you get all of its benefits without having to deal with a serum on top of your makeup. When I first started applying this new skincare product to my face, I could feel how it tightened up and helped minimize my wrinkles right away. It has been six weeks now and my skin looks smoother, more hydrated, and more even.
Moisturizing Morning and Night
I use two different moisturizers in my morning and night skincare routine, which I alternate every other day. I start with an oil-free moisturizer in the morning since it’s easier to apply makeup over it without getting that greasy look. At night, I use a thicker cream that is loaded with antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients. The next step is to give me an at-home microdermabrasion session using this amazing sugar scrub! Next, I’ll remove my makeup before starting my evening skincare routine by gently massaging some cleanser into my skin. And then rinse it off with warm water. Finally, finish up by applying a face mask that will help hydrate your skin overnight and keep you looking fresh!
Incorporating Retinol
Retinol is a form of vitamin A that’s often used in anti-aging skincare to help fade wrinkles, smooth skin, and fight acne. Retinol is available in many forms, from over-the-counter retinol like RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream and prescription retinoids like Renova. I used to use an over-the-counter retinol cream nightly but found it was causing me to break out. When I switched to using a prescription retinoic acid gel once or twice a week my skin became clearer and smoother. So if you’re not seeing results with your current regimen, talk to your dermatologist about trying a prescription form of this powerful ingredient!
Seeing a Dermatologist
It’s always best to see a dermatologist before you start using any new products, even if they are over the counter. The dermatologist will be able to tell you what is best suited for your skin type. And give you advice on how to keep it looking as young as possible. Plus, many offer special discounts or free samples of their own skincare line in order to get you hooked! There is no need to worry about seeing one, either.
